Can You Compost Sawdust?
Yes, with care. Sawdust from untreated wood is a very high-carbon brown, roughly 200–500:1 C:N, that soaks up excess moisture. Use it sparingly, mix it well, and never add sawdust from treated, painted or engineered wood like MDF.

How to compost sawdust
Sprinkle it in thin layers, no more than about 1 in (2–3 cm), and mix it with plenty of greens, since it needs a lot of nitrogen to break down. It works well as a cover over fresh kitchen scraps to block smells and fruit flies. Hardwood sawdust breaks down faster than cedar or other rot-resistant woods.
Sawdust makes a decent path mulch. If you don't know what wood it came from, leave it out of compost.
What goes wrong
Thick layers clump, shed water and can stall the pile by tying up nitrogen. Break up clumps, add greens like grass clippings or coffee grounds, and moisten. Pressure-treated wood, plywood, MDF and particleboard contain preservatives and glues you don't want in compost.
Worm bins and bokashi
Worm bin: Small amounts of untreated, aged sawdust can go in bedding, but fine dust packs down, so mix it with shredded paper.
Bokashi: Sawdust doesn't belong in bokashi; the bokashi bran does that job.
